Report from the Dock
If you want to fish through the ice this weekend, you can do that in the northern half of the state. If you want to fish open water, you can do that as well from the central part of the state and areas south of it. Obviously, the farther north you go, the better ice conditions you’ll find, with the cutoff point for fishable ice still around the Brainerd area. There should be no issues finding ice to walk on and even use ATVs in some locations north of Brainerd through this weekend. Generally, fishing pressure has been light, even where good ice remains, and based on many reports, it sounds as though most anglers have put their ice fishing gear away for the season. Open water fishing opportunities have been slow to develop although the ice just went out in most locations to the south during the past week. The majority of activity has taken place on rivers, but look for the traditional spring crappie spots to start producing soon.
Leech Lake Ice Fishing Report
With the cooler days and nights this week, the ice has actually firmed up. While some shorelines and accesses have pulled away, others have remained intact, so if you can get on the lake, ATVs should be good to go this weekend in many areas. With that, there haven’t been a lot of people fishing, despite favorable conditions. The north side of Walker Bay and Agency Bay have been best for perch.
