View this week's fishing report on Leech Lake

There’s 14 to 16 inches of ice in the Trapper’s Landing area, and there are roads marked out to Huddle’s Reef, Diamond Point, and Roger’s Point. Ice depths continue to vary from 8 to 14 inches in Walker Bay and 12 to 16 inches on the main lake. Walleye action has been best with shiner minnows and setlines during low-light periods on the points and reefs in 14 to 18 feet. Stay mobile during the day in these same areas, but work deeper water with jigging baits.

Bigger walleyes and a few keeping-size fish are being caught on the main lake flats and Stoney Point areas in 14 feet. The Sand Point area continues to produce perch, but you’ll have to sort. Crappies are being found suspended over deep water in Shingobee Bay and the south side of Walker Bay. Some small […]

The main lake now has areas with 10 to 14 inches of ice. Walker Bay is capped with 8 to 10 inches around the shorelines, but thinner ice the farther out you go, so you need to watch where you travel. Spoons and hole hopping is producing walleyes on the south end rocks in 10 […]

Walker Bay is capped and some foot travel has started close to shore. On the main lake, ice depths vary from 3 to 8 inches. There has been some perch caught in 6 to 10 feet in Kabekona Bay, around Shingobee Island, GrandVu Flats, and out from City Park in Walker Bay. Walleye action has […]

A strong wind last Friday opened a big chunk of Walker Bay, which remained open early this week. Foot traffic should be an option out of the Trapper’s Landing area this weekend, and the Trader’s Bay/Pine Point areas would be worth checking for walkable ice as well.
