Report from the Dock

The one constant theme this week is that the number of people fishing has noticeably dropped off. Those who still have their boats out are doing quite well for walleyes, panfish, pike, and bass, especially with water temperatures finally starting to go down. A jig and minnow is the go-to presentation for walleyes, but with this week’s full moon, many anglers have been trolling crankbaits with success, especially during low-light periods. Crappie and bluegill action remains strong, with most crappies now being found suspended over 15 feet or more, while sunfish continue to be found in any shallow, green weeds that remain. Northern pike and bass are biting, but muskie anglers continue to struggle a bit, they’re seeing fish, but getting them to hit has been difficult.

Leech Lake Report

Perch are being caught with minnows in the Sand Point area in 4 to 6 feet. Walleye action remains spotty, but a jig and minnow is producing some fish in 6 to 8 feet off Star/Oak, Sand Point, Mounds Point, and the Hardwoods if the wind is hitting them. Portage Bay, Bear Island, and the main lake flats are giving up some fish in 9 to 11 feet. Muskie reports have been slow, with a few being seen on the rocks. A few ringbills have shown up, but duck numbers remain light and grouse hunters continue to find good numbers of birds.

Report from the Dock Slowly, anglers are starting to see some fall walleye patterns develop even though water temperatures remain warmer than they should be this time of year. With some cooler weather in the forecast this week, the fall walleye bite should improve quickly over shallow water in most areas. Look for shorelines, points, […]

Report from the Dock It was a nice weather weekend for fishing and activity was strong in most areas. It sounds as though walleye anglers are starting to transition back to minnows, although crawlers and crankbaits are still producing fish. Water temperatures are cooling down and that seems to keep the fish active for longer […]

Report from the Dock Minnesota is lucky to have so many lakes with bluegills and crappies in them because they’ve really provided the best opportunity to consistently put fish in the boat this week. For the most part, bluegills have bit best during the morning and afternoon hours, while crappies are hitting best each evening. […]

Report from the Dock It seems as though many anglers have finally had enough of the wind and warm weather since the number of people venturing out over the past week really took a downward spin. In some locations, it’s become increasingly more difficult to get bigger boats launched due to low water levels and […]
