There’s still time to enjoy the warm weather and August is a great time to visit Leech Lake! Leech Lake is the 3rd largest lake in Minnesota and provides the perfect backdrop to spend your summer day.

There is something for everyone! Whether you love hiking, fishing, water skiing, tubing, boating, or just hanging out on the beach, Leech Lake has it all. Here are the top 5 activities to do in August:

1. Fishing

With over 112,000 acres of water, Leech Lake is a fisherman’s paradise. There are many different types of fish to be caught, including walleye, muskie, northern pike, and bass. The best spots to try your luck are Walker Bay, Submarine Island, Sucker Bay, Portage Bay, etc.

However, note that different species of fish are more active at different times of the day. For example, walleyes are most active at dawn and dusk, while muskies are more active during the daytime. Also, some spots are more likely to produce results than others.

To increase your chances of success, consider talking to your resort host or hiring a guide who knows the lake well and can take you to the best spots.

2. Boating

There is no better way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Leech Lake than by boat. Many different types of boats are available for rent, including pontoon boats, fishing boats, and even speedboats. You can also bring your own boat and launch it at one of the many public boat ramps.

4. Eating Out

We all enjoy a good meal, and Leech Lake has some great restaurants that will not disappoint. From lakeside casual to fine dining, there is something for everyone’s taste. Good examples of places to eat include Jimmy’s Family Restaurant, The Boulders, Northern Lights Casino buffet, and Chase on the Lake. So much so you can enjoy watching the sunset over a meal in the restaurants with some outdoor seating.
