Thanksgiving Weekend in Leech Lake
November 20, 2013
Next weekend is one of the best weekends of the year: Thanksgiving weekend! Thanksgiving weekend is the beginning of the holiday season, and there is no better place to spend your weekend than in the Leech Lake area surrounded by family and friends.
Next Thursday is of course Thanksgiving, and there is no better way to spend the day than at home with your family eating lots of delicious food, relaxing and maybe even watching some football. After spending lots of family time and eating all the turkey you can possibly eat, the holiday festivities in Walker begin on Friday with the annual Festival of Lights festivities. The fun starts at 6:00 p.m. Friday night with the lighting of the tree in Walker City Park. The Festival of Lights Parade will begin right after the tree lighting and is definitely one thing you don’t want to miss! The variety of lighted holiday floats illuminating the streets of Walker will get you and your family into the holiday spirit in no time.
After the parade, many of the restaurants in Walker will be open so the whole family can enjoy more time together warming up with a hot beverage.
The holiday festivities continue on Saturday with the Reindeer Ramble sponsored by the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. All participants are encouraged to dress up in fun holiday themed outfits for the 2 mile run. The Reindeer Ramble is the perfect way to burn off all the Thanksgiving food you ate!
The downtown shops in Walker will be offering a variety of specials and sales all day Saturday so you can get an early start on your Christmas shopping while supporting local merchants. Many area restaurants will be offering Festival of Lights dining specials, if you’re already getting sick of Thanksgiving leftovers.
There will also be plenty of children’s activities on Saturday, including horse and wagon rides from noon to 3:00 p.m. for only $2 per person. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas Children’s Party will run from noon to 2:00 p.m. in the lower level of the American Legion. This is one party your kids won’t want to miss, because Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to take pictures and listen to their holiday gift wishes.
As you can see, the Leech Lake area is the perfect place to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with your family! After all the festivities, there’s no way you won’t be in the holiday spirit. If you’re looking to visit Leech Lake from out of town for the weekend, the area offers many resorts and hotels in and around Walker to choose from. Book your stay today!
