It also connects to the Chippewa National Forest’s Shingobee Recreation Area, providing an extensive network of trails and recreation opportunities.

In addition to the Heartland Trail, Walker is home to the North Country National Scenic Trail, which traverses the scenic southern boundary of the Chippewa National Forest. The Paul Bunyan State Trail offers a 120-mile adventure from Brainerd to Lake Bemidji State Park, perfect for biking, hiking, and more. Other notable trails include the Soo Line Trail, Mi-Ge-Zi Trail, Cedar Bog Trail, and Stony Point Recreation Area Trail.
