January 24, 2019
February is a fantastic time for getting away to Leech Lake with the one you love. The holiday rush is over, the lodges are cozy and warm, and the snow is some of the best for skiing all year. Additionally, there are special savings at the local lodges. In addition to luxurious lodging, there is plenty of winter fun and recreation to enjoy at Leech Lake and in the surrounding area of Walker, Minnesota. Here are just a few of the activities that make a Valentine’s winter lake vacation so special.
Try a Couple’s Massage at Copper Door Spa
Copper Door Spa at Chase on the Lake is the perfect spot for a couple’s massage, or to treat your special someone to a manicure/pedicure or facial. Their stellar service includes complementary beverages, soft robes, soothing music, and a fantastic line-up of Aveda products for hair and body. Not only will you get everything you expect from a spa and more, the setting on Leech Lake takes a relaxing day to total bliss.
Dining at The 502
Chase on the Lake is also home to one of Walker, Minnesota’s best restaurants – The 502. The menu and lakefront setting feel high end, but the atmosphere is come as you are. It is a perfect place to end a day adventuring or just relaxing around the resort. In addition to some great appetizers, main dishes, and desserts, there is wonderful entertainment. At least one night a week, you can hear live music at The 502. Local acts and bands from around the Midwest grace the stage. Enjoy this special musical treat along with dinner and dessert.
Biking the Heartland Trail
Not only is the Heartland Trail aptly named for a Valentine’s Day adventure, it is also a wonderful place for adventurous couples looking to brave the cold for some exercise and fun. If you are fortunate enough to have a few days of mild weather, you can choose between a paved path or a mountain path for all-terrain bikes. However, if you visit during heavy snowfall, you can also rent a snowmobile for large segments of the trail. 20 miles of trail are snowmobile accessible, and rentals are available nearby. The trail runs from the town of Walker to Park Rapids – a beautiful 49-mile journey.
A short drive south from Walker brings you to Pine River, Minnesota. There, Pine River Riding stables offer horseback riding on a 260+ acre ranch. The views are as exquisite as the experience is romantic. Snow-covered rolling hills on horseback – what could be better? If you are a beginner, you can even take a few horseback riding lessons while you’re there.
