Leech Lake Ice Fishing Report for February 26th, 2025
February 27, 2025
Report from the Dock
The recent stretch of warm weather certainly changed lake conditions across the state in very short order. While there’s still snow on top of the ice across northern Minnesota, there’s water underneath that snow, and in the southern half of the state, the snow has mostly melted, leaving a lot of water on top of the ice. Early this week, there didn’t seem to be any issues with shoreline ice or access points getting too beat up. But if the warm weather persists, that could change quickly, so check on varying access and lake conditions statewide heading into this weekend as far as travel options. Panfish reports have been pretty solid in most locations, although there are more people fishing for them now that the inland game-fish season is closed. Crappies are still being found suspended over deep basin areas, but several reports indicated that they’ve moved shallow with bluegills as well. Eelpout action is also going strong.

Work the main-lake mud flats in 15 to 20 feet or the Miller’s Bay and Pine Point areas in 11 to 16 feet for perch. Some anglers have starting find perch in shallow water, but they have run smaller. Eelpout are hitting bigger jigs and shiner minnows after dark. Work the main-lake mud flats or points in Walker Bay over 18 to 24 feet. Many of the shallow, weedy bays have started producing panfish in 9 to 11 feet.
