Leech Lake Fishing Report for October 22nd, 2024
October 24, 2024
Report from the Dock
Not everyone has put their boat away for the season. In fact, the nice weather kept most bait shops busy across the state during the past week, and boat traffic is much stronger in most areas than it normally is this time of year.
Walleyes are being caught mostly with minnows at this point, and as water temperatures slowly continue to drop, many bites are now lasting throughout the day. There’s been a major run on large sucker minnows for muskies during the past week. If you can find big suckers, they’ve produced the majority of big muskies caught this week.
Sunfish are still hanging in shallow weeds, and most bigger pods of crappies are now being found suspended over deep water. The recent stretch of summer-like weather hasn’t done much to improve hunting opportunities. While many reports indicated better deer movement, there haven’t been many archery hunters filling tags. The ducks haven’t been moving, either.
Leech Lake Report
A jig and rainbow minnow is producing walleyes in 7 to 12 feet around Partridge Point and Battle Point and in the GrandVu Flats area over 9 to 14 feet. Bigger perch have started hitting a vertically-presented jig and minnow over the deep weeds by GrandVu and the north end of Walker Bay in 6 feet.
