Leech Lake Fishing Report for October 16th, 2024
October 17, 2024
Report from the Dock
The most noticeable factor in most reports this week is that there have been a lot fewer people fishing. The first real cold air of the fall moved in, with stronger winds some days, and with most hunting seasons now underway, there have been fewer people out in boats. Those going are catching walleyes, mostly with minnows at this point, and walleyes have started to bunch up. Generally, water temperatures in the majority of the state have finally hit the low to mid-50-degree mark, and that’s triggered more consistent walleye activity. Panfish action has been lighter, again because there haven’t been as many people fishing for them, and large sucker minnows have been producing bigger muskies. Reports from the pheasant opener last weekend were mostly positive and, in most cases, better than last year’s opener. The corn harvest is ahead of schedule which likely helped, and where there’s good habitat, there seems to be roosters.
Leech Lake Report
A jig and rainbow minnow is producing walleyes around GrandVu Flats in 10 to 12 feet and off Sugar Point in 12 to 16 feet. The flats in Agency Bay and north end of Walker Bay have been best for perch with minnows in 5 to 9 feet. Muskie action has been best on shallow rock structure with the North Bar and Pipe Island areas being two spots that have stood out this week.
