Leech Lake Fishing Report for November 27th, 2024
November 27, 2024
Report from the Dock
With the first blast of cold air covering the state this week, ice has started to develop, especially across northern Minnesota. It was limited, but some bays and small lakes were already ice-covered by Tuesday morning. The key at this point is light wind because the forecast certainly looks favorable for ice to continue to be made. In a few northern locations, there might even be some opportunities to find ice thick enough to walk on next week, but you’ll want to call ahead for up-to-the-minute ice conditions in a given area. Small, wind-protected bays and shallow lakes will be the first spots to provide enough ice to walk on, but check it as you go. Given the forecast moving forward, there was quite a bit of optimism this week from some reports in the northern half of the state that there’s going to be a quick turnaround from open water to ice fishing. Again, the wind will be a factor.
Leech Lake Report
There was no ice to speak of on the lake early this week, but with some light winds and continued low temperatures, portions of it might start to cap soon. A bit of shoreline ice has started to form in the small bays off the main lake. Some small bays on a few other lakes and most ponds did have skim ice starting to form as well. There’s also a thin coating of snow on the ground.
