Leech Lake Fishing Report for April 30th, 2025
May 1, 2025
Report from the Dock
The good news is that crappies and bluegills are being caught when the weather allows anglers to get out. Another week that included relatively cool air and constant winds has continued to keep many anglers off lakes across the state. The weather also hasn’t done much to improvepanfish numbers in shallow water, meaning the vast majority of crappies are still being found outside of bays, channels, and harbors in 6 to 12 feet just as it was last week. If the sun comes out and warms the shallows a bit, some fish are being caught in less than 4 feet; they just haven’t stuck around and continue to move in and out with the changing weather. With the exception of a few, far northern locations, the ice is now gone statewide. Lake of the Woods, Lake Vermillion, Rainy Lake, and the Ely area still had some ice, but it was disappearing fast. There shouldn’t be ice issues for next week’s fishing opener.
Leech Lake Fishing Report
If there was any ice left on the lake Tuesday morning, it was minimal and floating, being pushed with the wind. Most of what was left disappeared with Monday’s rain, so look for bays and harbors to start producing crappies soon.
