Leech Lake Fishing Report for April 10th, 2024
April 11, 2024
Report from the Dock
Last weekend’s weather was not ideal for fishing, but anglers are starting to get out. And with better weather conditions expected this week, open-water fishing activities should pick up quite a bit. Crappies are being caught but reports were limited as of Tuesday morning. But the spring panfish bite has started to kick in. Generally, crappies are being found more deep than they are shallow, mainly outside of the traditional spring locations. But, this week’s sun and higher air temperatures could mean a quick push into shallow bays, canals, boat harbors, and channels. If they aren’t in these dark-bottomed, shallow spots, they should be staging just outside of them. You have to look pretty far north to find any ice at this point, and anything that’s left is expected to be gone soon. Walleye fishing on border rivers continues to be strong, with plenty of pre-spawn fish being caught on the Mississippi and Rainy rivers.
Leech Lake Report
There was still quite a bit of ice on portions of the lake early this week, but many bays had opened up, as had large stretches throughout the main lake. The shorelines had pulled away where ice remained, the ice in place was rotten, and likely to be completely gone within the next week, if not sooner.
