Leech Lake Fishing and Hunting Report for October 8, 2025
October 9, 2025
Report from the Dock
It finally happened: cool air and a switch of wind from the north has arrived and flushed out the summer-like weather that’s been hanging over the state. This is good news for anglers, albeit a bit later than normal, but water temperatures have finally started to drop. The early part of this week was somewhat of a transition. Keep in mind it was 85 degrees last weekend, so it’s likely going to take a few days for any noticeable changes in fish movement and activity. Walleyes will become more active, setting up in the traditional fall haunts and starting to hit minnows more consistently; crawlers were still the ticket in many areas early this week. Look for crappies to not just move deep and suspend, but also to stay in these basin areas for the remainder of the open-water season. Last weekend’s strong winds also blew a lot of leaves off trees, which opened up the woods a bit more for frouse hunters.
Leech Lake Fishing Report
A jig tipped with nightcrawlers or minnows continues to produce walleyes in Portage Bay, around Goose Island, and across GrandVu Flats in 9 to 12 feet. Perch action has been best in 5 to 8 feet in the Walker Narrows and Agency Bay, while muskies continue to be most active on the shallow rocks.
