Leech Lake Fishing and Hunting Report for October 30th, 2024
October 31, 2024
Report from the Dock
It seems as though many outdoors-minded folks have been focusing more on hunting than fishing during the past week. Despite some pretty nice weather/fishing conditions, the number of people still wetting a line has diminished even more since last week. There’s been quite a bit of preparation in the woods for the upcoming firearms deer season, and archery hunters are reporting better deer movement both bucks and antlerless deer during daylight hours. The rut sounds like it’s starting to amp up in many parts of the state. Waterfowl hunting has been OK, and while some diver ducks have started to be seen, there hasn’t been a big push of northern birds into the state. Grouse reports remain favorable and show improvement now that the cover has thinned out, while pheasant hunters are doing best in the south and western parts of the state. For those that still have their boats out, walleyes and crappies are biting in most areas.
Leech Lake Report
A jig and minnow is turning walleyes on the wind-driven points and shorelines in less than 10 feet. The Bear Island area, Whipholt area, Battle Point, and GrandVu Flats are also producing walleyes on minnows in 7 to 12 feet. The north end of Walker Bay remains the best option for perch, along with a few walleyes, in 6 to 8 feet.
