Leech Lake Fishing and Hunting Report for December 3, 2025

December 3, 2025

Report from the Dock

With an extended stretch of arctic like air, ice has developed quickly across the state. Even in the far southern part of the state, ice seems to be more noticeable than open water, and the farther north you go, the more ice you’ll find. There are still some open water spots on the big, deep lakes, but most bays or small to medium-sized lakes have locked up in most areas. In some northern locations, anglers started checking ice late last weekend, and in some spots, found enough to walk on and fish through early this week. Generally, 3 to 5 inches of ice was being found as of Tuesday morning, where anglers have already ventured out. Given the fact that cold weather is hanging around and there’s very little snow on top of it, the ice should continue to quickly thicken. Check with a local bait shop or resort concerning ice depths, and most important, check the ice as you head out, but there will be lakes to fish this weekend.

Leech Lake Fishing Report

Most of the main lake locked up last weekend, and the small bays were capped prior to that. There might be some foot traffic and possibly even some spear houses set in the small, shallow bays as early as this weekend – up to 4 inches of ice was being found in those bays early this week. Walker Bay still had quite a bit of open water on Tuesday morning.
