Report from the Dock

Warmer weather has returned, and anglers have been taking advantage of it. Bait shops and lakes have been busy this week as people once again have the ability to get out and move around. This has meant better fishing reports as well. There seems to be much more panfish activity than last week, likely due to the fact that hole-hopping is again an option. Drill a lot of holes and move and you’ll find bluegills and crappies in and around any remaining weeds that exist. There’s also been some solid crappie action for suspended fish over deep basin locations in most areas, mainly after sunset. Walleye activity has been slow, but some fish continue to be caught on spoons, while most are hitting minnows on deadsticks. With just three weekends left in the walleye season, keep keying on low-light periods for most of your fish. Trout and northern pike reports have mostly been better this week than last as well.

Leech Lake Report

Walker Bay is producing eelpout on the deep humps and some walleyes in 20 to 22 feet. On the main lake, walleye activity is best late in the day and overnight on the 16- to 20-foot structure. Deadsticks are working best. Bigger perch are being caught by anglers willing to stay on the move in Trader’s Bay over 18 to 28 feet or around Goose Island and Sucker Bay in 8 to 16 feet. There’s been crappies being caught in Sucker Bay and Portage Bay, while whitefish and tullibee action has picked up over deep water throughout the lake.

Report from the Dock The holidays brought out a lot of anglers during the past week. Lakes and bait shops have been extremely busy, especially with the nicer weather and the fact that permanent fish houses are now being pulled out in most areas. Lake and ice conditions vary in a lot of locations, but […]

Report from the Dock Everything was lining up nicely for good ice and lake conditions prior to last week’s snow. Anglers were getting out, using ATVs, side by sides, and even trucks in some areas, but most of that has come to an end. While snow depths varied across the state, enough of it fell […]

Report from the Dock The weather has been unusually nice throughout the past week, but the number of people fishing continues to drop. The diehard walleye and muskie anglers are going out and they are experiencing decent success with few other anglers around them. Walleyes are mainly being taken with minnows or horizontal baits such […]

Report from the Dock Water temperatures haven’t changed much since last week, but it has cooled enough to start triggering better muskie activity. In many areas, raising and hooking small muskies has not been an issue with bucktails or crankbaits. The majority of bigger muskies that have been caught over the past week seem to […]
