Walker Bay was mostly open early this week. There are 2 to 3 inches of ice in spots on the main lake, but also areas with thin ice and open water so even foot travel is not advised, especially with the warmer weather this week. Anglers are walking on many of the area’s small lakes where up to 5 inches of ice is being found.
The small bays and shorelines are capped and building ice. As of Tuesday morning, much of Walker Bay and the main lake still had open water.
