Report from the Dock

There was a bit more inconsistency in many walleye reports this week, and most anglers blame it on last week’s cold front, which continued into last weekend. In many areas, water temperatures dipped 8-10 degrees, and that meant much less aggressive walleyes. Anglers have been covering water and grinding out bites with a few more reports of minnows starting to turn walleyes. Not much has changed on the panfish front, other than they too have been a bit more sluggish this week. Weedlines, weed flats, or pockets within thick weeds continue to produce most bluegills, while crappies are most active late in the day and off established weed edges. There seems to be no problem catching bass and pike; they’ve provided the most consistent action this week, and most continue to be weed-related. Like last week, look for bigger fish on deeper weeds.

Leech Lake Report

A slip bobber, jig, and piece of crawler continue to produce walleyes in the Snakepit area in 12 to 16 feet. Anglers trolling crankbaits during low-light periods and after dark are catching walleyes on the north end of Walker Bay in 9 to 12 feet. A few bigger perch have started showing up off Sand Point and in thicker cabbage beds in 8 to 10 feet. Muskie action remains best on the main lake rock piles with bucktails in 5 to 10 feet.

Report from the Dock Angling pressure sounded like it was a bit down during last weekend’s heat wave, but by Monday, many people were venturing back out. Overall, fishing reports remain pretty solid for this time of year, although not much has changed from a week ago as far as where the fish are being […]

Report from the Dock The recent stretch of hot weather seems to have kept more anglers off of lakes during the past week, but those who are fishing early and late or through the warm weather are catching fish. Overall walleye action has been pretty solid moving into August, especially on the state’s bigger, more […]

Report from the Dock There seems to be no problem catching good numbers of bluegills and crappies across the state. Just about every report this week indicates solid panfish action — sunfish during the day and crappies each evening, along established weedlines or weed flats. As we fly through July, panfish are also what most […]

Report from the Dock For the second week of July, walleye fishing has remained pretty solid in many areas. Despite changing weather patterns, bug hatches, and spiking water temperatures, walleyes continue to be caught with some consistency, especially early or late in the day. Crawlers, leeches, crankbaits, and hard horizontal baits such as Jiggin’ Raps […]
