Leech Lake Fishing Report for July 9th, 2026

Report from the Dock – Minnesota Fishing Conditions

Summer fishing patterns have settled in across Minnesota as warm water temperatures continue to push fish toward deeper structure and established weedlines. Walleye action has been most productive during the early morning, evening, and after-dark hours, with nightcrawlers remaining the top bait choice on spinner rigs, live-bait rigs, and jigs. Anglers covering water are finding more success than those staying in one location, especially on larger lakes.

Bass, northern pike, and panfish continue to provide consistent action throughout Minnesota. Healthy weed growth has created excellent habitat, with bluegills and largemouth bass holding along cabbage beds and weed edges. Crappies remain weedline-oriented and are most active during the evening bite. As summer patterns continue to develop, anglers focusing on vegetation, deeper structure, and low-light periods should find the most consistent fishing success across Minnesota.

Leech Lake Fishing Report – Walker, MN

Walleye fishing on Leech Lake has been challenging for many anglers, but those using forward-facing sonar continue to find success around rocks, sand, and weed edges in 12 to 15 feet of water. Slip bobber rigs or jigs tipped with a piece of nightcrawler have been the most productive presentations. Anglers covering water with spinner rigs are also catching walleyes on the flats and around Goose Island in 10 to 15 feet.

Muskie activity has improved on Leech Lake around the Submarine Island area and the 8- to 15-foot weedbeds in Agency Bay. For bass and panfish, target the cabbage and sand grass in 6 to 9 feet throughout Sucker Bay and Boy Bay, where largemouth bass, bluegills, and other panfish continue to provide consistent summer action near Walker, MN.
