Report from the Dock – Minnesota Fishing Conditions

As far as Minnesota fishing conditions go, not much has changed from last week. While some shorelines and current areas have started to break up, anglers can still fish through the ice in many of the same locations as last weekend, primarily the farther north you go.

Around areas like Ely, Rainy Lake, and as far south as Blackduck, ATVs and side-by-sides should remain viable travel options through the weekend. In areas slightly farther south, limited walk-out opportunities may still exist.

Across central and southern Minnesota, ice conditions have largely deteriorated or will disappear very soon. Anglers have begun transitioning to shore fishing and early open water fishing, with a few boats starting to appear on lakes. However, there has not been a strong early crappie bite reported yet. Until water temperatures increase, anglers should continue focusing on slightly deeper water rather than shallow areas where fish have not fully moved in.

Leech Lake Fishing Report – Walker, MN

On Leech Lake near Walker, limited fishing opportunities still exist, but overall angler participation has dropped significantly.

With compromised shorelines and access points, most anglers have been limited to walking out, although ATVs may still be an option in select areas. If you are able to get out, perch have been caught off Sand Point, Agency Bay, and the Walker Bay Narrows in 6 to 9 feet of water.

Conditions vary widely across the lake, and with fewer anglers getting out, it has become increasingly difficult to gauge where safe and accessible ice remains. Caution is strongly advised for anyone attempting to fish these remaining areas.
