Leech Lake Fishing and Hunting Report for October 1, 2025

Report from the Dock
By most accounts, walleyes continue to act like they did in August, not like they should be now that we’re into October. Water temperatures remained unseasonably warm, with another stretch of 80-degree weather sticking around this week. Basically, walleyes are stuck between summer and fall patterns due to the warm weather, and their more aggressive feeding windows remain short-lived. It’s certainly not an all-day, every-day walleye bite at this point, so stick to your guns and grind out bites until it cools down. Crappies seem to be even more confused. Pods of crappies were being found suspended over deep water a week to 10 days ago, but the more consistent crappie bites this week went back to vegetation- look to the same areas that are holding bluegills, bass, and pike until water temps drop. The duck season started last Saturday, and most reports indicated a less-than-stellar opening weekend.
Leech Lake Fishing Report
The mouth of the river in Portage Bay has started producing walleyes in 7 to 12 feet. You’ll also find walleyes around Goose Island and Greg’s Breakline in 9 to 13 feet, the Annex in 12 to 15 feet, and over 8 to 12 feet on the north end of Walker Bay. Bigger perch are being caught off the 9- to 13-foot weed flats and edges on the main lake or north end of Walker Bay and Agency Bay in 5 to 8 feet. Work plastics over the weed tops for crappies in Portage Bay and Sucker Bay. Muskies remain most active on shallow rock.
