Leech Lake Fishing Report for July 16th, 2025

July 16, 2025

Report from the Dock

For the middle of July, walleye reports have remained pretty decent, although there seem to be fewer anglers chasing them. Those who are, tend to do best early and late each day with crawlers or leeches on structure or weedlines. There continues to be a lot of fish taken with slip bobber rigs, likely due to the increased use of front-facing sonar. There were also a few more reports that indicated crankbaits are starting to produce more walleyes at night, especially in shallow water. The majority of anglers during the past week have really focused on panfish, which have been cooperating across the state. Good numbers of quality bluegills and crappies are now being caught in and along established weed edges or weedbeds, and they’re often mixed together, although crappies seem to be most active during the evening hours. You can’t go wrong fishing the established weeds for pike and bass just about anywhere as well.

Leech Lake Fishing Report

Walleyes are being taken with a spinner and leech along the 7- to 10-foot weed edges in Portage Bay, and on spinners or a jig and crawler in the Snake Pit area over 12 to 16 feet. Main-lake walleyes are hitting glide baits on the bottom edge of structure in 14 to 18 feet. Bucktails and jerkbaits are turning muskies on the 5- to 8-foot weedbeds, while panfish and largemouth bass remain active in the 6- to 10-foot cabbage in most bays.
