Leech Lake Fishing Report for May 7th, 2025
May 7, 2025
Report from the Dock
With the extended stretch of warm, almost summer-like weather, water temperatures have risen quite a bit since last week across the state. That meant much better crappie and bluegill action in shallow water. Bays, shorelines, docks, old bulrush beds, and channels are now holding pre-spawn panfish. You’re still going to find some panfish outside of the traditional spring spots, especially the farther north you fish. But water temperatures in most areas have jumped enough during the past week to drive crappies and bluegills shallow and keep them there to feed throughout the day. There weren’t many reports that indicated panfish were still moving in and out of the shallows, as they had been until just recently. It should be a stellar weekend for catching panfish. If the walleye thing doesn’t work out as hoped, crappies and bluegills are going to be solid secondary options on the fishing opener.
Leech Lake Fishing Report
Crappie anglers are starting to show up in the bays and boat harbors, and there have been a few fish caught. Water temperatures jumped up quickly early this week, and that seems to have pushed crappies into some bays. Better reports this week were coming out of Sucker Bay, Boy Bay, and Shingobee Bay in less than 3 feet.
