Leech Lake Fishing Report for August 8th, 2024
August 8, 2024
Report from the Dock
Angling pressure sounded like it was a bit down during last weekend’s heat wave, but by Monday, many people were venturing back out. Overall, fishing reports remain pretty solid for this time of year, although not much has changed from a week ago as far as where the fish are being found. That simply means fish the weeds in weed pockets, weedlines, and weed flats and you’ll likely catch a mixed bag of fish. Walleyes are certainly weed-related and continue to be caught on crawlers and crankbaits, but a few more reports indicated that minnows are again working, especially with the supply of bigger leeches drying up. Crappies, bluegills, bass, and pike are also hanging in and around vegetation with better angling success during low-light periods of the day. Generally, the deepest, greenest weeds you can find are holding bigger fish of all species. Muskie activity has also been better on weeds than rock with bucktails.
Leech Lake Report
Jigs or a slip bobber rig with a piece of crawler are producing walleyes along the Snakepit area in 12 to 16 feet and around the rock fingers and points in south Walker Bay over 14 feet. Many main-lake rock piles are now producing smallmouth bass and walleyes as well. Smallmouth bass are also hitting spinnerbaits on the rock points, while largemouth bass are hitting plastics along the 8- to 12-foot weed edges in most bays. Hit the north end of Boy Bay for crappies and bluegills. Work the main-lake rocks in 3 to 15 feet with bucktails or topwater baits for muskies during low-light periods and after dark.
