Leech Lake Fishing Report for April 3rd, 2024
April 4, 2024
Report from the Dock
Fishing pressure remained limited across the state again during the past week, but that was mainly due to the snow and colder weather. The good news is that open-water fishing options exist.
While some refreeze did occur on some small lakes and bays in many areas, most of that ice will again be gone soon. Every expectation is that anglers in boats and those fishing from shore will start to blow the dust off their gear and get the open-water fishing season started soon – that is if the weather allows.
Again, ice is limited to a few distinct northern locations, and even that is going to be gone soon. For the most part, you’ll want to start looking for suspended crappies over some depth until water temperatures in the shallow bays, harbors, and channels start to climb. River fishing is also an option, with the Mississippi, St. Croix, and Rainy rivers all providing solid fishing reports this week.
Leech Lake Report
There are still pockets of open water throughout the main lake and some bays are open as well. With the exception of some shorelines and points opening in Walker Bay, it remained mostly ice-covered early this week. Many areas that were ice-free refroze recently, but the ice is expected to be gone soon.
