Walker Bay Days

July 17, 2013

If you’re looking for a day of fun filled outdoor events that your whole family will love, you need to check out Walker Bay Days! Walker Bay Days is hosted by the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, and will be held this year on July 30th.

According to the Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the mission of Walker Bay Days is to celebrate our family values, community pride and commitment to the preservation of the Leech Lake area, our bountiful resources and cultural history. Entrance into this family focused event is free, but there will be participation fees for most of the activities.

The Walker Bay Days festivities will start at 9:00 am with a 5K run beginning at Walker City Park. The entry fee for this race is $15, and it includes a commemorative t-shirt. Trophies will be given to both the overall male and female winners, and there will also be ribbons for the top three participants in each age group.

A volleyball tournament will begin at 10:00 am in the park. The tournament has an entry fee of $20 for each team of six. This tournament is sponsored by First National Bank, and the first place team will win half of the entry fee pot!

At 11:00 am, there will be a Pow Wow exhibition, and the food booths in the park will open. Shortly after that at noon, the Bingo tent and the inflatables will both open. These inflatables are going to be the best display in Walker all summer, and you’re kids are sure to have a blast bouncing around in them! A wristband for the inflatables can be purchased for $10. A craft fair will be running throughout the day, and there will be live music on the main stage under the tent for all the festivities.

The Big Dig, sponsored by Dale and Harriet Jones, will be back again this year! Registration for this beloved annual event will begin at 11:00 am, and the Big Dig will officially start at 1:00 pm. The entry for this event is free, and your children will have the time of their lives digging through the sand for tokens that they can trade in for prizes.

As you can see, Walker Bay Days has something for everyone in your family! Make sure you stop by Walker City Park on July 30th to check out all the festivities!
