Leech Lake Area Activities – Apr 24, 2013

April 24, 2013

Now that spring is finally upon us, it’s time to start planning your summer vacations! Leech Lake offers many family friendly activities that are sure to make your summer a memorable one.

The main thing Leech Lake is famous for is its amazing fishing, and it is often referred to as a “Walleye factory.” There are many different fishing bays to try your luck at, and Leech Lake offers not only the best Walleye fishing in the Midwest, but you also have a chance to bring home a Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike or an Eelpout.

If you want to do something in the water other than fishing, many area resorts have boats for rent. Also, there are businesses in nearby Walker, MN, that rent out jet-skis, ski boats, fishing boats, water tubes, wake boards and knee boards.

If you’re a golfer, there are many scenic golf courses in the Leech Lake area for you to enjoy a day on the greens. Tianna Country Club in Walker, MN, is a scenic 18 hole championship golf course that is available to the public. Tianna also offers a restaurant with a variety of delicious salads, sandwiches and even a breakfast menu. Longbow Golf Club is another 18 hole championship course right alongside Leech Lake. Longbow is also open to the public and is located only 6 miles north of Walker, MN. If mini golf is more your style, check out Wildwedge Golf and RV Park, which was rated the best miniature golf in greater Minnesota. Wildwedge also offers a wooden mystery maze that’s great for the whole family.

Leech Lake is also close to many hiking and biking trails. At the nearby Itasca State Park, you can walk across the Mississippi River at its source. Minnesota’s oldest paved trail, the Heartland Trail, offers miles of beautiful scenery, wildlife and flowers. The Paul Bunyan State Recreational Trail was built along abandoned rail corridors, and is the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll.

The Leech Lake area is also close to several casinos, including Northern Lights, Palace and White Oak. The Forest Winery and Leech Lake Brewing Company are a few other fun adult attractions in the area.

As you can see, a trip to Leech Lake can include endless possibilities! Whether you enjoy fishing, golfing, hiking or just relaxing by the water, Leech Lake would make a perfect vacation spot for you and your family.
