Leech Lake 4th of July Fun 2013
June 5, 2013
It has finally started to feel like summer in the area, and you know what that means: the 4th of July is right around the corner! The 4th of July is the perfect holiday for outdoor family fun, and there is no better place for that than Leech Lake.
The town of Walker, MN, has many activities scheduled for the 4th that will keep the entire family entertained. The day starts off with the City on the Bay 10K Walk/Run. There’s no need to be a serious runner to participate in this event; the walk along the lake would be perfect for any age.
That afternoon at 2:00 pm, the parade on Main Street begins with the kiddie parade. Children can show off their Boy and Girl Scout uniforms, twirl their batons or display any other skill they would like. The Grand Marshall leads the rest of the parade that includes Veteran’s floats, clowns, jugglers, homemade floats, antique cars, horses, fire trucks and ambulances.
The Walker City Park is another place full of activities on the 4th of July. From 10:00 am- 6:00 pm, there will be family festivities and games, including two bounce houses, dry and wet slides, a 4 Man Extreme Bungee Challenge and much more. Also in the park from 2:00 pm- 10:00 pm, there will be a fish fry and beer garden sponsored by the Rotary and Lions Club. Brats and hot dogs will also be available.
The festivities go well into the night with live entertainment by the band Power Play from 4:00 pm- 11:00 pm, and of course the fireworks show starting at dark. The magnificent fireworks are shot off over Leech Lake, and can be viewed from land or boat.
As you can see, the Leech Lake area is full of fun family activities this 4th of July. Book a spot at one of the many Leech Lake resorts and stay all weekend!
