42nd Annual Leech Lake Regatta

42nd Annual Leech Lake Regatta

July 31, 2013

It’s almost August already, and you know what that means. The annual Leech Lake Regatta is almost here!

The Leech Lake Regatta is a three day sailing festival that has been attracting sailors from all over the Midwest for over four decades. This year, the 42nd Leech Lake Regatta will be held from August 10-12 by the Shores of Leech Lake resort marina.

The Leech Lake Regatta is run by a volunteer committee from the Leech Lake Yacht Club, and this year the festival will include races for two fleets: mono-hulls and multi-hulls. Each of the fleets are also separated into several divisions. The races will take place Saturday, Sunday and Monday and will typically begin at about 10:30 am each of these days.

Saturday and Monday’s races will be in Walker Bay and the races on Sunday will be out on Leech Lake. If you would like to watch the races, the best place would be from the city dock or city park in Walker.

This festival is more than just sailing though! There will also be events that the whole family can enjoy, including campfires, music, a fish fry, a BBQ on Sunday evening and an awards banquet.

The registration fee for the 42nd Leech Lake Regatta is $100, and you can also purchase tickets for the awards banquet and BBQ picnic. Guests coming for this event can camp at the Shores of Leech Lake resort for $10 per night. There are also a few RV campsites available for $49 a night. If you would prefer to stay somewhere else, the Leech Lake area offers many amazing resorts and hotels to choose from!

The 42nd Leech Lake Regatta is sure to be a good time for the whole family! Book your weekend stay for this annual festival today!
